  • #letsdig18 @30:30, really nice side hill dozer work. That sure is odd with the roots so deep, Chris. Almost looks as if the "pond" was once a wet land with trees, said trees were cut down and the existing pond dig was tossed over the stumps. I couldn't tell if you were seeing a consistent strata of top soil, sand and clay throughout the whole process. No bottles that I saw so not a farmers dump site but anything is possible.

Kudos! 🙌 in answer to why people down here have ponds, part of it is the aesthetics, part is practicality- if you have a pond, most times your homeowners insurance is a little lower, cuz if there is a fire, the fire dept has a pond to draw from

  • The land there is very different to here in the NE of England. Here we have 2 feet of top soil and then a thick rocky layer of clay some 60 feet thick and then bed rock. I'd always wondered why wherever you dug it's always sandy and wet!

    • you lucky son of a gun here ( Eastern Ontario ) we have about 2 ft topsoil then bluerock in other places it is 2 inches topsoil then 2ft clay on bedrock ( bluerock requires blasting as the hammer wont touch it )

  • Interesting on your soil composition, ponds are only common around here if the ground is marsh/swamp. I converted 106 to Celsius it’s 41c 😳 holy shit we are suffering right now in 28c 83f it’s just bearable almost heat stroke weather 🥴
