  • Ok disclaimer, its Friday way past midnight ,had a whiskey or 3 or 5 , ok could have been more LOL. don't judge, I am a professional (drinker/operator or other way round depending on the time and what tomorrow brings.). Chris your a awesome operator in several different seats, I am as well , different seats but many overlapping, I'm in commercial construction been in everything from skid steer to tower crane. It just came to me though I think your channel name may be slightly wrong or could / should be changing depending on the gig. Maybe starting a new channel depending on the gig, I was thinking of Let'sbe, clear ( I'm sure a graphic artist could make that into a track hoe shape) or something along those lines. I think you do 75% or better clearing land and prepping sites than digging, but hey whatever pays the bills good for you. It's the American dream work your ass off to make your self better, rock on, I got no complaints, love to see good talent at work. I see complete dumbasses on a daily basis and wonder how they drive themselves to the site day. Just ask about this weeks dumbass moment,\Then I think these are the same people that cant do unproductive but manage to get into politics for life and are the same compete dumbasses that you don't know how they managed to get to work without killing themselves or anyone else on the road implementing new laws for the greater good of the people.

  • I drove by a site yesterday and saw a Volvo excavator and haul truck parked by the road. I immediately looked to see if he had the LD18 thumb. To my disappointment, he did not. I’m a 28yr old truck driver, but these videos make me want to become a heavy equipment operator.

  • So I went back and watched a video from when you first got the bucket and the thumb didn't make as much noise. From the camera on the stick the other day it looked like a fair amount of slop on the top of the thumb ram. Maybe needs some shims before the pin or ram top eye has to be replaced. Maybe it is supposed to be like that.

    • When ya build these it’s always the interior finishing that takes forever. Just finished a 40x60 shop this spring. Spray foam insulation and then a steel interior finish made things go very quickly indeed. All steel framed as well.. we will really see how well it is completed when I’m in there at minus 40 with a wind blowing. That lets you know how tight and insulated it is. My other shop turned cave is 30 x 40. It’s nice too but was stick built with 14 foot walls and fibreglass pink insulation. 2x6 walls but it’s not a really warm shop after about minus 30. That’s why I did spray foam insulation this time. It helped when I put a big gas fireplace in the lounging area, but there’s a healthy heating bill in the winter!!! In floor heat can’t keep up. You learn more every time you do something. Definitely. I bet this will be a nice shop. Wonder how Chris is doing with the enclosed portion of his new shop. I really like that shop!!! I like the open storage, but our winters here are too harsh for some of the vehicles I have and plan to get, to just store them outside. Building a 1967 Chevy short box. Cab and the front end are going in for paint. Finally ordered a new recreation of a stepside box from 67. Was torn between fleetside and stepside. I already have a 70 fleetside long box, sooooo. This tome I took the 454 out and put a 350 fuel injected crate motor. It’s only about 325 hp and 375 lb ft of torque hooked up to a 4L60.. The 70 has a 502 with 6 speed auto. About 575 hp and 600+ lb ft of torque (not dyno’d) it just sits and spins anyways,,,,, hahaha!! Next,,,,,, 68 Mustang resto mod. I have the powertrain from my other 69 Bronco that was broadsided this spring. It will be a very nice cruiser when done. Still planning that one out! Gotta do something in retirement.

I drove by his parents house the other day. It looks like somebody on a tractor and a box blade tried to level it with a flat tire on the back. He needs to get over there and hook his parents up with some smooth gravel....

  • We are always complimenting Chris for his skills, so I'm going to give John a big up for judging tail gating that last load of stone so perfectly. The last of it spilled out right at the end of the drive, so kudos to John. Guins Excavating and Chris himself like to use lowish hours good condition equipment, and they like to look after it. To underline the cost benefit of that, Mr Mike Simon Dirt Perfect has two excavators broken down on the job right now. His Volvo is not so old and I don't know what the problem is, but his Deere 120 is getting like grandpa's axe. It just came out of the shop after a major overhaul, and now it has a broken drive motor. He has the aggravation of moving the excavator back to the shop and leaving the job half done, which is not a good look.

Trevor DennisTrevor Dennis5 ditë më parë
    • I’ll agree with RAH Capital to a degree. If you are going to own older equipment it needs to look good and be in tip-top- shape. In other words a good paint job or a wrap if you can’t afford that. Non leaking hydraulics and motors as well as starts and runs every time. We all know, every piece of equipment will have problems at some point, however those problems will be much less if properly maintained/serviced and cleaned. With that said it has been my experience that customers will hire out the company that operates the newer and/or better looking equipment. They feel that they don’t have to worry about that equipment slowing the pace of their job getting done due to break downs etc.. I know owning good equipment is only 1/2 the battle, the operator needs to know what he/she is doing as well. So you add those two combinations together and I’ll bet the better looking/running equipment with a good operator will get the job every time.

Philliph WhirleyPhilliph Whirley5 ditë më parë
    • how many businesses have you ever owned and operated? how many millions of dollars of equipment have you maintained? some people like to own their equipment which means older, some people like to operate in debt their whole life(new shiny equipment). nobody cares if it "looks" good to YOU. one thing for sure, when you own it and business dries up, you arent stressing. so if OWNING older equipment gives you peace of mind thats a good thing. go badmouth people somewhere else.

    • So, I wouldn't say that old equipment is necessarily bad, but it does require some attention. Thanks to Trevor I went and watched this dirt perfect guy...
