  • Hey Chris! I’m havin a tough time keepin up on the videos!! I blame you and “Dirt Boss” for giving me ideas that my wife agrees with!! Hahaha. We did a,small 3/4 acre pond on our property when we moved in. We actually used some heavy 4’x4’x6’ concrete blocks like LEGO. We left some exposed for a nice 8-11 ft deep drop off we built a patio up against on top and the great nieces and nephews can fish for the few trout we were approved to stock. I got hurt in the spring and it’s harder taking care of 21 acres. Needed some land still after retiring from the Ranch (4400 acres). Well I was watching you and Dirt Boss and I went out and measured things out. (I have this cool mobility vehicle with tracks and everything! My buddies just want to ride around in the dang thing even though they don’t need it Hahaha. Can handle some serious slopes and I am standing while using it! I am walking more now, but not very far yet. Anyways, I felt I could get another 3 acres of pond if we broke through one smaller hill creating an interesting channel and eventually a bridge over the channel and there’s a big wallow that is about 3.3 acres it turns out! There is a lot of work needed for the bottom and to fortify the sides. I am going to create a few more drop offs so the kids, 4 yrs old to 84 years old, can fish. The pond/lake will be big enough for us to go out in our belly boats to find a few fish! A lot of the pond will vary between 14 - 24 feet at winter levels and about 3 ft higher, depending on the weather in the summer. (We don’t get much rain here.) in using the valley that was already there, I am getting a pretty large pond for pretty cheap! No trees here so a lot of the work is being done by 2 old 1970s TEREX TS-14s the rock work and finer shore work is being done with a couple of Volvo 160s and a little Kubota. They said what the bulldozer was going to be later on, but I can’t remember. They are not having to push the TEREXs. Sandy clay soil and it’s easy diggin. Might be ready before freeze up and I will have to wait until spring for water. It will be irrigation water, we then cut it off from the canal and bluestone the heck out of it to kill the pike/walleye and sucker that will come in with the irrigation water. Then after a month or so they will plant a lot of plants by scuba and working the shoreline for habitat (an expensive option, Landscapers are expensive enough in DRY soil!!! Hahaha). It means I can stock the pond earlier and fish earlier. There will be 2 strains of Rainbow Trout go in there. I bought as many brood fish as allowed so there will be some nice 5 - 8 lb fish in there too. They can safely winter in this pond/lake and they only ever get bigger!!! Hahaha. So thanks a lot!!! There goes the niece and nephews inheritance!!!!! It will add slightly more value to the property than it costs, but that doesn’t matter. I am sure I will make arrangements for the boys and girls clubs, Girl guides and Scouts, there are probably a few others that I will have fishing days for. Gives them a chance to get out of the city! My buddies are as excited as any of my nieces and nephews are! Haha. I actually want to thank you. This was possible because I learned enough for what to look for and have a contractor and engineer/architect I trust. I found the location, thought what would Chris and Mike do here,,,,,,,,, and now it’s happening. I think the background knowledge I garnered from you and the other ALworldrs as well as my contractor also made it easier with the county, Ducks Unlimited, Fish and Wildlife in getting all of my approvals. It was very quick. I had approvals pending before the engineered drawings for the dam and water controls (I will have to learn) we’re done. I now get a few hours of watching construction LIVE! Then I watch ALworld,,,,,,, Please stay safe out there, Eh!!

  • I've built ponds before but not out toward the coast in the sandier soil. I've always been in good red clay or blue mucky clay that works when dried out. If you get into an area where its sand and no red dirt how do you build a pond in that type soil. What do you make a dam out of to hold the water in? I know it can be done I just never seen it done or had it explained to me. From Rowan county, Stay well. -Wil 👍

I had a 330C and D5 lpg and tried to set up a business around my part of SC (Florence co), but just couldn’t find the work to stay busy and ended up selling equipment. I had a logging chipping and trucking co for 7 years, but got out after years of dealing w ppl that want a check but don’t want to work. I’m sure you know all ab that bo.
