  • Did Donald mean for Tim to use the chainsaw safety equipment? We see him using the chainsaw a whole lot more than you, and it is always a worry that he has no safety gear. On the downside whoever wears it will look like a total dork until it gets worn and dirty. The other Tim (Cotontop3) is testament to that. BTW I don't think a Makita shirt, and Makita pencil tucked behind his ear, will be much use as chainsaw safety equipment. Not even if he puts a Makita pencil behind BOTH ears.

  • Noted the nipple was galvanized pipe. Old rule of thumb, never use copper or galvanized pipe or fittings etc with diesel fuel. The zinc in the galvanizing will be leached out by the sulfur in the fuel. Same for copper, The ionized metal is then in a form that can travel throughout the fuel system. The biggest issue is that when injected into the cylinders it can clog the injector tips causing them to dribble instead of spray. I've had numerous problems with such over the years. In fact I've walked away from stationary engines that had such in place, telling the customer why and that when you get that fixed I will come back and repair your issue. It doesn't tale much to occlude the micro hole that atomizes the fuel.

  • As much as I like the Hitachi and all the work you have done on it. You may go backwards on it a little $$ wise, but if it won’t pay for itself, or if using it means the Volvo isn’t paying for itself, sell it. It’s just a machine and that money is important capital or a decent pay down on the Volvo. The sooner you can run without debt, the sooner you retire! I know, I kept building my farm/ranch to a point, but it was killin me (literally) so I’m 56, retired and in fantastic shape financially!! I reached the point that I had enough cash in the bank that I bought all my land for cash! Leased most of my equipment so it stayed new and there was no downtime. The odd piece I would buyout at the end of the lease if it made sense. Ya buy appreciating assets and try to lease depreciating assets. Claim capital cost allowance on the entire payment and you have expenses that are in real time. Anyways, I had almost 4400 acres left when I sold the whole lot except 240 acres of some special land I had reverted back to how it was 150 years ago when there was basically no one here except the indigenous people. Nice place to visit and camp at. I have friends my age that are still in debt. They have nice stuff, but can’t sell out yet due to owing too much on everything. So keep what you need, sell what you don’t. The machines don’t care,,,,,,,

Also while that new Volvo goes in for a new bucket, Old Betsy will run the show. That last job had a lot of concrete aroung the pipe. They used a 700 series komatsu to lift 9' by 9' precasts for a storm drain. Smaller 330 did the digging.

Came very close to a bad cut through not wearing kevlar inserts one time, with the chain brake on the saw being my saviour (36 years later, I still have the same Husqvarna 266, though it's not seen much use in 25 years).
